Torrevieja or the old Tower in
English, used to have 4 guard towers as a part of a chain
of towers which was built along Valencia cost to protect against
attack. Today Torrevieja can thank the salt lakes for its
existence. In 1802 the salt production moved from La Mata
(to day a part of Torrevieja) to Torrevieja and new plans
made to a new town. At that time there were about 1500 habitants.
To day this salt production is one of the biggest in Europe
and Torrevieja has more than 70, 000 registerd habitants together
with Orihuela Costa make a considerable settling of European
and thousands of turists every year.
CLIMATE: The temperature and salt concentration
in the air gives Torrevieja especially health-bringing climate
which has been recommended by health personnel all over the
world. To day there is an increase in people who uses the
salt lakes regularly as a health bath. Torrevieja has 320
sun days a year, and 18 degree of an average temperature.
Actually Torrevieja has the same average of day temperature
as the Canary Islands.
COMMUNICATION: Torrevieja is situated 50km. south of
Alicante which is the capital city of the province. Most people
arrive to Torrevieja by plane and the airport is south of
Alicante. To Torrevieja there is approx. 40min. driving on
highway 332 that stretches north/southward along the cost.
Now there is a new motorway which connects Torrevieja with
Murcia / Cartagena in south and Crevillente in the west, from
there to Alicante and Valencia.
RECREATION: For those who practise various water
sports Torrevieja is perfect place. The sea outside of Costa
Blanca is one of the cleanest in the Mediterranean and with
its long sand beaches and its micro climate make Costa Blanca
one of Europes most popular holiday place. The harbour in
Torrevieja has a capacity for 1500 boats, and the harbour
and seaside promenades are ful of live in the summer time.
For golf enthusiastic there are several golf fields within
Torrevieja surrounding, Such as Villamartin, Campoamor and
Las Ramblas etc. etc. Beside that there is tennis, horse riding,
water sports or just walking along the long beach or bicycling
in the country side has become popular activity and you can
experience the plentiful animal life, especially does this
apply for the bird life around the salt lakes.
GASTRONOMY AND ENTERTAINMENT: The Spanish food tradition consists
of many "cuisine" from different parts of the country. Such
as the Asturian, Basquian, Katalanian, Andalucian and the
Castilian cuisines. These are based on different traditions
and plus the different culture makes Spain an unusually varying
and exciting country. The Spanish learned from the Romans

in production of wines and is known for it´s high quality
and a favourable prices. The Spanish people loves fish products
and at the grocery we find in heaps of products from the sea.

consists of many different kinds of small dishes and which
many Spanish people consume standing in the bar with a glass
